Nutrition is what we get when we eat food. Nutrition includes everything like sugar, fat, energy.
But when we consume food more than what the body actually needs and do not use it then that extra food is stored in body as more sugar, extra fat which causes overnutrition or unbalanced nutrition.
Everybody has a basic requirement for food according to its usage on daily basis, for e.g. a sedentary man working for 12 hrs in an office requires less energy as compared to a labor working for 12 hrs.
Energy requirement for an individual is measured as energy needed during rest (body at rest) + energy needed to complete tasks daily.Our bodily actions take place even when we are at rest e.g. breathing, digestion, cell production, immunity fighting all require energy. This type of energy is called basal metabolic rate. It is different for each individual.
Basal Metabolic Rate is dependent on a person’s gender, age, height, weight, body composition, genetic factors.
Coming back to overnutrition so if I may say that my BMR is 1400 and I am sedentary working woman i.e. I burn around 200-250 calories daily by working. So, to maintain my current weight I should consume only 1400+200= 1600 calories.
But considering my unawareness I consume 2000 calories daily so there are an extra 400 calories remaining in my body which will eventually add to my weight.
Thus, this causes overnutrition problem.
Diseases related to overnutrition majorly are: –
- High cholesterol
- Cardiovascular diseases
- Slow thinking
- Thyroid and various hormonal imbalance in Man and woman
- Acid Reflux
What Causes Overnutrition: –
Overnutrition is a lifestyle born chronic disease. It builds up day by day has to be treated day by day.
Unawareness I would term is major cause of overnutrition. Not knowing what we are putting in our body is a basic mistake we make and will have to suffer later the consequences.
Best way to avoid/cure overnutrition is to know what are body needs and eat accordingly. If overnutrition has further taken shape into a disease then see a doctor and try to get rid of generating factor of it by lifestyle and food modifications.
